This was a month of both some happy and some sad times. It was good to be with our friends again, some young and some not so young.

A Strong Woman We visited Mama Martha who, when we met her in 2008, earned money to support herself and her children by collecting wood in the forest and carrying it home on her back to sell. Now she shares her life with a man that she met when they both were waiting in line for their spouses’ death certificates. Their shamba is in a very dry area, where it has not rained in the past two growing seasons.

Our Time in Kenya We attended the burial service of The Very Rev. Bernard Muindi, who founded and directed the Tumaini Children’s Home in Nyeri where we lived in 2005 and 2006. And we said our goodbye to him with around 25 former Tumaini children.

A Female Competitor We watched a polo match, a first for us, and we had lunch with our Danish friend Anna at the Polo Club in Nairobi. Anna has lived in Kenya for over forty years, and she is both a tour guide and a horse masseuse. We got to see close up thirty ponies that she has groomed and massaged. They are former race horses, now owned, trained and ridden by both white and African Kenyans.

The Magnet Family We spent four and half days at Nambale Magnet School where there are now 349 students. It was wonderful to see all their faces, and to remember that just ten years ago Rev. Evelyn Wakhusama got the title, and we walked around the seven areas where there was nothing but grass and few trees.

Please pray with us

Lord, may each of us remember that
in order to develop more peace in the world,
we first need to nurture our relationship
with You as our loving and forgiving Father,
the Source of hope, joy and peace for all.
When we feel Your joy and peace within,
we are most able to share joy and peace with others.
Grant us the grace, Lord, to choose peace
each day so we can spread Your peace on earth.
Amen.
